The effect of the amount of wollastonite on the performance of white Portland cement.

 

Abstract: This paper studies the effect of the amount of wollastonite on the standard consistency, setting time, and strength at various hydration ages of white Portland cement. The results show that as the amount of wollastonite increases, the standard consistency of the cement slightly increases, the initial setting time is extended by about 1 hour, and the final setting time is extended by 0.5 to 1 hour, all within the national standard range for setting times. The flexural and compressive strengths at various hydration ages decrease with the increase in the amount of wollastonite, with the decrease in flexural strength being significantly smaller than that of compressive strength at the same age. When the amount is less than 10%, the impact on the physical and mechanical properties of white cement is not significant. Introduction: Wollastonite is a white fibrous mineral that can spontaneously undergo hydration reactions under the alkaline conditions formed during the hydration process of Portland cement, generating calcium silicate hydrate with a calcium-to-silicon ratio greater than or equal to 2, making it a new type of cement active admixture that meets national standards. Due to its high whiteness and the low shrinkage deformation of its cement concrete products, as well as good weathering resistance, atmospheric stability, and frost resistance, it is very suitable as an admixture for white Portland cement. This has significant implications for reducing the production costs of white cement, saving energy, and broadening the application avenues for wollastonite resources. This paper discusses the impact of the amount of wollastonite on the standard consistency, setting time, and strength of white cement based on the author's previous work. 1. Main experimental materials 1.1 Wollastonite: Sourced from the Lishu wollastonite mine in Jilin, crushed and ground to a fineness of 0.08mm with less than 5% residue on a square hole sieve, whiteness > 85%, and the results of chemical composition analysis are shown in Table 1. 2.2 The effect of wollastonite content on the determination of standard consistency and setting time of white cement was measured using different parameters of wollastonite.
