This process is known as 'digestion' or 'slaking,' resulting in powdered calcium hydroxide, known as gray calcium powder.

It can also be produced through chemical synthesis, but the calcination method is more common.

Physical properties:

White powder: The appearance of gray calcium powder is white or slightly yellowish, odorless, and tasteless.

Hygroscopicity: It easily absorbs moisture from the air, especially in humid environments, leading to clumping.

Reactivity: It reacts with water exothermically to produce an alkaline solution and reacts with carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate.

Alkalinity: Gray calcium is a strong alkaline substance with a pH value of about 12, capable of neutralizing acids.
