Lightly calcined dolomite usually refers to dolomite that has been calcined at about 1000℃ (a mineral mainly composed of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate). This process causes some of the dolomite's carbonates to decompose, generating calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO), and forming a porous structure, which exhibits physical properties such as low density, high porosity, and strong chemical reactivity.
In the industrial field, lightly calcined dolomite has various applications, including but not limited to:
1. Steelmaking industry:
• As an alkaline slagging agent, lightly calcined dolomite can adjust the alkalinity of the slag during the steelmaking process, promote desulfurization and dephosphorization reactions, improve the purity of the molten steel, and lower the melting point of the slag by dilution, thereby saving energy.
• It helps improve the fluidity of the steel slag, facilitating slag removal operations.
2. Building materials:
• Used in the manufacture of refractory materials, such as refractory bricks and insulation bricks, due to its high-temperature resistance and certain thermal shock resistance, it has wide applications in high-temperature equipment linings.
However, there is limited information regarding the role of lightly calcined dolomite in brake pads, but based on some possible application scenarios, the potential roles of lightly calcined dolomite in brake pad manufacturing may include:
• Enhanced friction performance:
The powder of lightly calcined dolomite may serve as a filler or additive to improve the friction coefficient of brake pads, enhancing braking effectiveness. Its high reactivity may participate in friction reactions at high temperatures, helping to stabilize friction performance.
• Cost control and environmental protection:
As one of the non-metallic components, lightly calcined dolomite is more environmentally friendly compared to certain heavy metal materials, and it is also lower in cost, which can partially replace other expensive or environmentally unfriendly components.
• Thermal stability and heat dissipation:
The good thermal stability and high porosity of lightly calcined dolomite help absorb and dissipate heat generated during braking, which may assist in preventing brake overheating and extending the lifespan of brake pads.
