Cobalt blue is a blue powder with a greenish hue. It is mainly composed of cobalt aluminate Co(AlO2)2. It is obtained by mixing cobalt phosphate with aluminum hydroxide or aluminum oxide and then calcining. It is heat-resistant, light-resistant, acid-resistant, and alkali-resistant. It is used in the production of glass and ceramics, as well as in drawing and painting.
It has excellent hiding power, strong coloring ability, and dispersibility; outstanding outdoor light resistance, weather resistance, and high-temperature resistance; good resistance to acids, alkalis, various solvents, and chemical corrosion; it is non-permeable and non-migratory; it has good compatibility with most thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics; it also has infrared-reflective properties and is widely used in rolled steel coatings, engineering plastics, anti-counterfeiting coatings, and roof insulation coatings.
